Story #30: “One Step of Faith”

Story #30: One Step of Faith

It wasn’t until after my mom passed away in 2020 that I learned she had tried to abort me—and that the abortion had failed. Looking back, I can see God’s hand at work in my life and a purpose for my life.

In January 2003, I was standing on the side of the road holding a pro-life sign, praying and asking the Lord to use me in a more tangible way in the cause for life. A few Sundays later, the Executive Director of Women’s Pregnancy Center came to my church and shared about the need for volunteers.

I knew immediately that this was an answer to the prayer I had been praying.

After completing the training, I began volunteering at Women’s Pregnancy Center in 2004. For a year, I drove an hour from work every Tuesday afternoon to volunteer, while praying the Lord would bring me closer to WPC. He answered that prayer in a way that was more than I asked or imagined—my job moved across the street from WPC!

Over the years, I’ve served as a Client Advocate, Receptionist, Board Member, volunteer, and now Finance Director. Through every season, I’ve been blessed to see the difference the Lord and the staff here are making as we love, serve, and support families facing unplanned pregnancies.

I’ve supported the ministry in many ways over the years, but one thing I look forward to every year is the Walk for Life. I walk because I believe this ministry is important. We have the opportunity to come alongside women and families facing unplanned pregnancies and to stand for children who have no voice to speak for themselves.

And I can be very competitive when it comes to raising funds for the Walk! I’m enthusiastic about encouraging my church family to get involved. I encourage them to become sponsored walkers, but at a minimum, to sponsor someone on our team. My philosophy is simple: people may say no, but we have a 50/50 chance. The more people we ask, the more funds will be raised.

After more than 20 years, I’m still praying, still serving, and still grateful to be part of this ministry and the lives we get to impact.
