Story #27: “Guess What?”
Every story has a moment that changes everything.
In 2007, a woman came to the Women’s Pregnancy Center facing a difficult decision and believing she had already made up her mind. What happened during one appointment would become a moment she would never forget.
Here is her story, in her own words:
“God led me to the Women’s Pregnancy Center a couple of months ago when I called their number thinking it was an abortion clinic. I talked to Sally on the phone and she asked me to come in for an ultrasound and she also prayed for me before we hung up. No one ever prayed for me before.
When I came in my mind was made up to have an abortion because I already have three children, I had just gotten a new job and my husband and I were worried because we were already struggling financially. Even though I didn’t want to have an abortion I thought it was my only choice.
When Judy was doing my ultrasound I was depressed thinking about the abortion but my mind was made up – until Judy said, ‘Guess what?’ ‘You’re having twins.’
I was feeling bad enough about ending my pregnancy with one child, but when Judy told me I was having two babies I knew I couldn’t have an abortion.
My counselor, Rebeca, at the Pregnancy Center has become a very important person in my life – she has given me her support and her friendship. In fact, she calls me more than my mom does. I couldn’t believe she was a volunteer – I thought, ‘she really does care about me.’
I am so glad I didn’t call an abortion clinic that day. The Women’s Pregnancy Center saved my babies’ lives.”
Her story reminds us that we may never know how one conversation, one prayer, or one caring person can change the course of someone’s life.
Will you help make sure we can continue to be there when a woman needs someone to walk beside her? Your support allows Women’s Pregnancy Center to offer compassionate care, encouragement, and practical support to women facing unexpected pregnancies.
Together, we can make sure no woman has to face a difficult moment alone.
