Story #24: A Little Pair of Boots

There are stories that remind us why we do what we do.

Three years ago, on a Wednesday, a grandmother learned that her 17-year-old daughter was pregnant. She was scared, overwhelmed, and unsure of what the future would hold.

Thankfully, she came to us.

Through kindness, compassion, and counseling, she was supported as she faced an incredibly difficult decision. Today, the picture above tells a beautiful part of that story: two tiny boot-clad feet belonging to a little granddaughter who is deeply loved.

Her grandmother writes:

“This little granddaughter is very special to me. Her mother is grateful she made the right decision. She adores her little girl and has gone on to help make a better life for them both.”

And the story doesn’t end there.

Her mother has enrolled at a local community college and is just one semester away from earning a two-year degree. It hasn’t been an easy road, but it has been a hardworking, courageous, and hopeful one.

Sometimes, the impact of what we do isn’t immediately visible.

Sometimes, it looks like a pair of little boots.

Sometimes, it looks like a young mother building a future for herself and her daughter.

And sometimes, it looks like a grandmother writing, simply, “With much gratitude.”

This is why these stories matter.

This is why your support matters.

And this is why we’re honored to share the next story in our 45 Stories of Life series with you.

With gratitude,
