Story #20: She Had Just 20 Days to Decide
For 45 years, the Women's Pregnancy Center has been privileged to walk alongside women and families during some of life's most unexpected moments.
Today's story comes from Regina, who first shared her testimony at our Gala in 2011. Though many years have passed, her experience remains a powerful reminder of how one conversation, one ultrasound, and one caring advocate can change the course of a life forever.
Regina’s Story:
On a cool December morning, my boyfriend and I went to the Women's Pregnancy Center to take a pregnancy test. My client advocate told me my test was positive.
I was shocked. Doctors had told me I might never be able to have children because of the radiation and chemotherapy I had received. I went back and forth between laughter and tears. I was overwhelmed and didn't know what to do. We had no way to properly care for a child—we could barely care for ourselves.
That same day, I had an ultrasound at the Center. It confirmed not only that I was pregnant, but that my due date was only 20 days away.
Just two days later, I met with the Center's adoption advisor. She patiently explained what adoption could look like and shared how her own daughter had made an adoption plan for her baby. It was one of the hardest decisions I have ever faced, but I knew in my heart it was the best way to give my daughter opportunities we simply couldn't provide at that time.
She helped me connect with an adoption agency and assured me that she would be there for us every step of the way.
Just six days after our first visit to the Women's Pregnancy Center, my baby was born.
Looking back, I know we would have been completely lost without the help and support we received. The compassion, encouragement, and guidance we found at the Women's Pregnancy Center changed our lives. Choosing adoption was the hardest thing I've ever done, but having people who truly cared for us made that journey just a little easier.
